Arun Tamm (1989) is born and raised in Tallinn. The director has been active in the craft of film since he was 16 years old. After directing his first amateur short film with his friend Andres Kõpper “The Bastards”, they got an unbelivable offer to direct a full feature film “Bad Hair Friday”, which became one of the most watched film in Estonia. After the success of their first film, Arun started to direct and write commercials. He is currently the most in demand commercials director, but his heart belongs to longer formats. He has recently directed two TV series: “Naughty Girls” and “Restart”, made New Years Eve specials and short films for Estonian National Broadcasting. The Director is known for mixing genres. Finding the right balance between the seriousness and the absurdity of everyday life is an ongoing process. With his bold enthusiasm to try new things they often push the limits of both ethics and moral, but always stay in the limits of good taste.
LIFE STORY.
I am an Estonian director. I enjoy working on commercials professionally and on music videos and experimental short films on my free time.
I love challenges — the opportunities that I take myself and others trust upon me. And I like to collect the world in my head and in folders and on shelves. It feels like creating an elaborate tool that has all the pieces and it is left upon me to play around with them.
In life as in creation the main question I ask myself is: “Why not?”. It always turns out to be rhetorical. Because every crazy idea is worth following, if it feels right.
Well regarded for an appealing visual directing style – minimal with great focus on details and aesthetics. Production portfolio of intensive turnaround schedules and demanding international scopes. Commercials for the leading brands. Music videos for well known artists. Short image films for a variety of passionate artisan clients. "Freshness meets experiences. Attentiveness meets efficiency." An internationally experienced director.
I started my career in the USA. Originally I went there to pursue a career in wakeboarding. A few serious injuries later… wakeboarding was replaced by filming! Coming from an extreme sports background I know how to capture action and pay attention to detail. Whether it’s working on 200 people crew studio shoots in India or two man crew guerilla style shoots somewhere in the jungle, I like a hands on approach. Besides directing, I often shoot and edit my own projects.
I work worldwide with agencies such as BBDO, Leo Burnett, DDB, JWT, McCann, Ogilvy for brands like BMW, Volkswagen, Pepsi Co, Nissan, Huawei, Panasonic, Uber and many others. The passion that I bring to each project is the same as it was for the very first film I ever shot.
When i’m not shooting I spend time outdoors – rock climbing, surfing, skateboarding, slacklining or anything else that fuels me with adrenaline. For the past couple of years I’ve been a nomad and living out of a backpack. Whether it’s from project to project or just for fun, I’m constantly on the road. So get in touch, I might be coming to your city next!
